The Manitoba Karting Association (MKA) is Manitoba's only ASN associated club offering kart racing.
Yes, typically the club meets on every third Tuesday @ 7:30 PM CST at the Wildewood Club.
All members must register annually by filling out a membership application package. Completed packages must be provided to the MKA Secretary along with the necessary payment.
Membership costs depends on the number of drivers registered. As of 2008, a single driver membership costs $100 CDN (with additional drivers costing $20 CDN each). This membership fee does not include the costs associated with actually participating in a race weekend.
If you have missed part of the season, then the membership fee is reduced based on the number of races missed. Each missed race reduces the cost by $5. For example: if the member has missed 5 races, then the membership is reduced by $25 to $75 for the remainder of the season.
Note that the latest cost for membership is included in the supplementary rules. Refer to the Race Season Information page for a copy of the latest rulebook/membership costs.
Volunteer cheques should be provided along with your membership application package to the MKA Secretary. Three cheques should be made with each having a value of $75 CDN. They can be made payable to "MKA". The three cheques can be post-dated for May 1, June 1, and July 1.
An active driver registry can be found here. Numbers are reserved for drivers participating in the previous race season. Numbers otherwise not listed are available. If in doubt, check with the MKA Secretary to determine number availability.
The following age restrictions apply:
Karts can be purchased from:
Astro Insurance offers the service to insure your kart. A form is available here.
Often members will allow their karts to be test driven by friends/family following a race event. For the nominal fee of $5 (made payable to MKA), an individual can take a test drive of a kart on the Gimli race track. A waiver must be filled out prior to driving on the Gimli race track.
As of 2008, the classes available are:
All regular season races are held at the Gimli race track. Occassionally, "street races" are held in alternate venues from year to year.
A map is available here.
A total of 10 races are held annually. Of these 10 races, the top 8 are used for final point calculations. Note that a bonus is applied if a driver participates in all races. A final enduro race is usually held at the end of the race season in addition to the 10 races.
Directions are available here.
Fuel is dependent on the type of engine which you use:
